A Houston County jury has convicted a 75-year-old Cottonwood man for trafficking marijuana.
Assistant Houston County District Attorney Banks Smith said a jury found 75-year-old Lee Carroll Brooker guilty of felony trafficking marijuana.
Houston County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Brooker and his 48-year-old son, Darren Lee Brooker, in July 2011, charging them each with trafficking marijuana.
Houston County Sheriff’s Capt. Antonio Gonzalez said a joint investigation with Dothan police led to the discovery of a growing operation at a residence in the 3700 block of State Line Road in Cottonwood.
Gonzalez said in a statement that 42 marijuana plants were seized from the property and the plants had an estimated street value of about $92,000. The plants were found behind a house in a wooded area.

The trial for the father started Wednesday in front of Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson. Attorney John Steenland III represented Brooker in court.
Smith said Brooker faces a sentence of life in prison without the opportunity for parole because of four prior felony convictions on his records, including multiple armed robbery charges.
But he said Brooker was allowed to remain released on bail until his sentencing hearing.
Brooker’s son, Darren, was convicted last year of a similar drug trafficking charge. But he received a reverse split sentence in front of Circuit Court Judge Michael Conaway, which involved a 10-year sentence with Brooker serving five years probation first. Attorney Derek Yarbrough, who represented the younger Brooker, said if his client does well on probation the prison sentence will be suspended.
