Dothan police arrested a 24-year-old man Thursday night and charged him with punching a Dothan police officer in the face.

Dothan Police Sgt. Jason Adkins said police investigators arrested Martez Rashad Dozier, of Walnut Street, and charged him with felony second-degree assault.

Adkins said the assault charge stemmed from officers on foot patrol at Johnson Homes government housing complex recognizing Dozier as someone who had been banned from the property.

“They asked Mr. Dozier if he resided in Johnson Homes,” Adkins said. “He turned to run away and as an officer grabbed him that’s when he turned around and struck the officer with a closed fist.”

Adkins said the officer was struck in the face, but was not seriously injured. He said the officer was treated at the scene by emergency rescue, but did not require treatment from a local hospital.

“After a short struggle with the suspect they were able to get control of him and place him in cuffs,” Adkins said.

Dozier was taken to the Houston County Jail and held on $15,000 bail.
