Democrat Maddox withstood a challenge from Republican Jay Henry Tuesday, gaining about 60 percent of the votes cast.
“First of all I want to thank everyone for their support,” Maddox said. “But most importantly I want to thank the voters for voting for the person and not the party. I think voting for the party, whether it is the Democratic or Republican party, is a mistake. The party has no influence in making a decision in what is done for the people."
With the election over, Maddox said he is focusing on keeping his promises to the people of Henry County.
“I am a man of my word,” Maddox said. “I have had great support from the people of Henry County while serving as sheriff these past 12 years, and I ask for your continued support during the next four years. I want to work towards having all units in the department continue to grow and serve the residents of Henry County to the best of our ability.”
During the past 12 years in office, Maddox has accomplished many goals throughout the department. However, he insists additional improvements and accomplishments are needed.
“Improvements are always needed, and it is always great to fulfill an accomplishment,” Maddox said. “During my time as sheriff our K-9 unit has grown and so has the reserve unit. We have also increased the number of pilots we have for the sheriff’s department helicopter program.”
Maddox said the unity of all law enforcement agencies in Henry County is important.
"We need to all be on the same page when it comes to serving the people of Henry County," Maddox said. "I also want to see improvements take place in our communication system."
Maddox is looking forward to serving another term as sheriff.
“I could not do my job if it were not for God and the residents of Henry County. I am a firm believer in having an open door policy. I invite anyone to stop by my office. Remember, it takes all of us working together to improve Henry County,” Maddox said.
