Death investigation continues in Clayhatchee

CLAYHATCHEE - Early reports show alcohol contributed to the drowning of a Samson woman in the Choctawhatchee River at Clayhatchee Saturday, Dale County Chief Deputy Mason Bynum said Thursday.

The body of Anna Waller, 36, of Samson, was recovered about 5:30 p.m. about 75 yards downstream of the Clayhatchee Boat Ramp on Highway 92 following a missing person report. 

The body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to be performed.

Clayhatchee Police, Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Clayhatchee Fire, Daleville Department of Public Safety, Wicksburg Fire, Houston County Rescue Unit, Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams, Alabama Game and Fish, and the Dale County Coroner’s Office assisted Dale County Sheriff's Office in the recovery.
