Two charged armed robbers and one rape suspect acquitted

A Houston County jury returned a not guilty verdict in the first-degree rape case of Jesus Torres, who was arrested in November 2009. Torres was defended by Shaun McGhee. He was accused of sexually assaulting a female under the age of 10. Torres took the stand in his own defense and said he had no contact with the alleged victim.

A jury also found Roderick O’Neal Marshall not guilty of first-degree robbery. He was charged with being involved in connection with an armed robbery of the Citgo convenience store on South Oates Street on Jan. 17, 2009. Marshall was represented by Valerie Judah.

A not guilty verdict was also returned in the first-degree robbery case of Vernon Snell, charged in connection with the robbery of an individual on Sept. 11, 2000He was defended by Billy Joe Sheffield III. Snell claimed he was a bystander who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
