TROY, Ala. – Coming off one of the most decorated seasons in Troy football history, senior punter Evan Crenshaw has been named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-America Second Team, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Tuesday.
Walter Camp is the nation's oldest college football All-America team. Considered the "Father of American Football," Walter Camp introduced the play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries, and the restriction of play to eleven men per side in 1880. Nine years later, in 1889, Mr. Camp, then the Yale University head coach, selected the first-ever college football All-America team.
Crenshaw earned a pair of first team All-America honors last season from the Football Writers Association of America, Phil Steele and The Sporting News, becoming the first Troy player to earn multiple All-America honors at the FBS level.
In addition to his All-America awards, Crenshaw was one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award and was named the inaugural Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Year.
A native of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Crenshaw boomed 21 punts of 50-plus yards and placed 29 of his 68 attempts inside the 20-yard line last season. He helped Troy finish the season ranked 11th nationally in net punting (42.62), and he finished 17th nationally, averaging 45.69 yards per punt.
