PENSACOLA, Fla. — Troy Baseball wrapped up its third weekend of fall ball action in Pensacola, Fla., on Saturday afternoon with an 11-inning clash with the Florida Gators.
Third-year standouts Jimmy Janicki and Ty McGraw led the offense, each turning in a 3-for-5 performance on the day. Janicki ignited the second inning with a leadoff single before advancing to second on a wild pitch. McGraw then came through with an RBI single to put Troy on the board.
In the fourth inning, McGraw notched his second hit in as many at-bats with a double down the left field line.
Later in the ninth, Janicki launched a leadoff solo home run to deep right field. Caden Reeves followed with a walk before McGraw crushed a two-run homer to a similar spot to cap off a three-run inning for the Trojans. With the long bomb, McGraw finished the contest just a triple shy of the cycle.
With two down an inning later, Janicki roped his second of the day — turning on the jets and racing all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run.
On the mound, the Trojans posted 14 strikeouts to four walks across six different arms. Preston Watkins got his second start of the fall, tossing four strikeouts with two hits and a run and no walks in two innings.
Every Trojan who took the mound registered at least one strikeout. Grady Bivens struck out three batters across two innings, while Matteo Pare delivered two scoreless frames — highlighted by an efficient seven-pitch inning featuring three consecutive groundouts to first base. J.T. Long closed out the contest and matched Preston Watkins for the team high with four strikeouts.
Troy baseball takes a slight break before their final fall exhibition match against LSU in Baton Rouge, La., on Nov. 8. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will not be streamed.
